Self-diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome Young Ambassador National Autistic Society Starred in BBC show My Autism and Me

ROSIE KING

Self-Diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome, Featured TEDMED Speaker

Sixteen year old Rosie King first hit the headlines in the UK when she accurately diagnosed her own Asperger's Syndrome at age nine.

Appearing on local news to promote her mother's children's book, she was spotted by BBC for her camera-friendly ease, and asked to present one of their special programs, My Autism and Me which went on to receive a BAFTA nomination, a Royal Television Society Award and an International EMMY award.

King is a Young Ambassador for the National Autistic Society, and a champion individuality. Her inspiration to make a difference comes from the fact that her younger brother and sister are both severely affected by autism.

King was asked to speak for TEDMED at the JFK Center in Washington DC last year, and received a standing ovation as well as a week long stint on TED.COM, where her talk has now been viewed well over a million times.

Rosie King loves to write, and typically has several pieces of fiction in the works at any given time. She is planning to write a book about life with her family within the next year.

Clifford Beers Clinic

MISSION

. . . is to provide integrated services addressing mental, physical, and social determinants in order to improve health, resiliency, and quality of life of children, families, and communities

Clifford Beers is a mental health clinic serving children and families in the Greater New Haven area.  Our focus is on working with children who have experienced trauma -- things like abuse, neglect, witnessing community violence, and loss of a loved one.

At CBC, we believe that in order to best care for a child, it is necessary to consider and, where appropriate, treat not just the child but the entire family.  If we work with a child but place him or her back with a family that is struggling for one or more reasons, what progress can the child truly make?  Thus, care may involve working with one or more additional family members, reviewing the family’s basic needs issues, or connecting with the child’s school and teachers.  In this way we can best remove barriers to healing and help the child pursue a healthy, resilient and happy life.

Offering a wide variety of programs and services -- from individual, group and family therapy to providing a family with complete wraparound care -- the Clinic strives to ensure that children and families in our community can thrive.

Why Choose the

Builders of Hope Breakfast

Bringing a community together to strengthen children and families

Associate your business with the annual Builders of Hope breakfast, which has been convening members of the community for 15 years. Through this event we create a network of champions of like-minded individuals who want to bring attention to community based systems of care that take a “whole-istic” view of the child and family.

This year’s event will focus again on the growing need for autism services and the importance of offering a multidisciplinary approach with responsive service all under one roof.  Providing and integrate approach to care for those families trying to navigate the autism and IDD landscape.
